Introduction and purpose:
Virtual reality is a method of watching images taken from the computer in order to isolate the individual from real life for a while. There are many studies conducted using virtual reality in nursing science. In this study, it is aimed to review the published theses about virtual reality in the field of nursing in Turkey and to systematically examine the data obtained from these theses.
Method:
The study was carried out between 1-30 September 2022 in the database of the Turkish National Thesis Center (YÖK) and by scanning national theses with the keywords "virtual reality, virtual reality glasses, nursing". 649 theses were reached with the term virtual reality and 39 theses with the term nursing. One thesis was not included in the study because it was in the field of midwifery, and 38 theses were evaluated within the scope of the study.
Results:
Of the theses included in the systematic review, 17 (45%) are master's theses, and 21 (55%) are doctoral theses. It was determined that these theses were carried out between 2016 and 2022, 4 (%10) of them were prepared on nursing student education, 1 (%3) patient education, 1 (%3) nursing burnout, 32 (84%) were prepared on subjects such as pain, anxiety, depression, and patient satisfaction. All theses are in experimental research type.
Conclusion:
Looking at the results of the theses; It has been determined that virtual reality application in the field of nursing is effective in reducing patients' pain and anxiety levels, positively affects patients' vital signs, has positive effects on nurses' emotional burnout, and supports nursing students' skill training and patient education.
