SATISFACTION STATUS OF EMERGENCY HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL: THE CASE OF THE PROVINCE OF KARS

Abstaract:This study was conducted in accordance with the mixed research design to determine the satisfaction status of the emergency healthcare personnel. The study sample consisted of 118 participants, who were working in the 112 Emergency Health Service and agreed to participate in the study. The study data were collected using a questionnaire. The data obtained in the research were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program. The reliability of the questionnaire was evaluated with the Cronbach's Alpha analysis. The Cronbach's Alpha value of the study was found to be .867. For evaluation of the data, numbers, percentiles, means, standard deviation and ANOVA were used. Of the health personnel participated in the study, 51.7% was female and 48.3% was male, 71.2% was single, 67.8% was in the 19-25 age group, 48.3% was high school graduate, and 66.9% was Emergency Medical Technician. Of the healthcare personnel, 60.1% was working in the center of the Province of Kars, and 78% was found to work for 5 to 10 years. All of the healthcare personnel participating in the study were found to work in type-A station. Of the personnel, 45.8% had been subjected to violence. It was found that accommodation, heating and other physical needs of the healthcare personnel were neglected in their station, and their level of satisfaction in this regard was found to be low. However, they were found to believe that there should be law enforcement officers at the scene in order to prevent violence and their satisfaction level was found to be high in such cases. Therefore, physical conditions (shower, WC, refreshment areas, etc.) of the 112 Emergency Health Service employees, who have a stressful and intensive workload, should be standardized, and there must be areas where they can do sports since their duties require physical strength and endurance. Their ability to cope with stress should be improved through psychosocial support programs since they continuously encounter negative events. And, their motivation can be increased by rewarding.
