THE PLACE AND IMPORTANCE OF COMPLEMENTARY TREATMENTS IN PROFESSIONAL NURSING PRACTICES

The basic philosophy of nursing practices and complementary medicine treatment is the same. The common aspects of both are their holistic approach to the individual, their supportive roles during treatment, their focus on improving health, and the active role of the patient. They use similar thinking and approach to develop both nursing and complementary medicine knowledge bases and practices. Since nurses are responsible for their every attempt, they are expected to have sufficient knowledge about complementary therapies while giving care. Nurses should have the necessary diagnostic skills to be able to diagnose and evaluate the effects of the treatment. While examining the origins of the disease, complementary therapy deals with the physical symptoms of the disease as well as lifestyles and emotional factors, so it is preferred in our country and all over the world. Nurses combine a wide range of ideas and practices from different traditions and cultures to support patients in self-healing. Complementary medicine, which emerged as a result of the combination of these ideas and practices, is the most appropriate professional group to be included in health care. Necessary importance should be given to nurses to ensure more effective and reliable use of traditional treatment systems, and traditional treatment should be given due importance in addition to modern medicine. This article aims to discuss the place and importance of complementary therapies in professional nursing practices in light of current literature. ORCID NO: 0000-0002-1337-6344
